Freshwater Aquarium Constraint Planner / methodology notes

How Tank Balance calculates your result

Review water ranges, group sizes, tank dimensions, and unresolved behavior constraints. No opaque stocking score. No false compatibility guarantee.

Start with evidence, not a score

Estimate actual water volume from internal dimensions, fill height, and displacement, not the nominal tank label. Check each species against entered adult-space requirements, minimum social group, and measured water ranges.

Read the assumptions

Keep cycle status, aggression, missing husbandry evidence, and other uncertainty visible. Passing numeric checks never becomes a guaranteed compatibility score. Prioritize animal welfare. A specialist-reviewed husbandry plan and a properly cycled, stable aquarium are required; this calculator is not approval to add fish.

Use a reproducible workflow

Enter your own measurements or import records using the published CSV schema. Save a local scenario before making a change, compare the result, and export a copy with the assumptions intact. Example inputs are not a verified catalog or a live data feed. The source references explain the underlying terminology; they do not independently verify information you enter.
